Projects we Support
Girls on the Run
Hoover Elementary School, Salem, OR
Girls on the Run is a 16-week program for girls in grades 3-5. Students who sign-up learn about leadership, collaboration, and character development as well as become a runner. At the end of the 16-week program, they run a 5K race with an adult running buddy. The Foundation has provided funds for supplies, running shorts, socks and shoes.
Each trimester the Future Focus class hosts mock interviews where students have a short job interview.
The Foundation members have volunteered in their capacity as professionals to participate as interviewers in the Canby mock interviews and to provide job shadow opportunities in the areas of business including but not limited to sales and executive positions.
A miniature “shark tank” experience for teams of students. After developing a business plan students receive seed money from the foundation to make and sell their product or service. Following the sales period, students present their project and the results to Foundation Board Members and are graded on their presentation and understanding of business concepts.
Youth across the community create a lemonade stand and sell their products. The Foundation is a financial sponsor and has had board members help evaluate the stands.
